Matthew 22: 1-14 (NKJV)

The Parable of the Wedding Feast
1 And Jesus answered and spoke to them again by parables and said: 2 “The kingdom of heaven is like a certain king who arranged a marriage for his son, 3 and sent out his servants to call those who were invited to the wedding; and they were not willing to come. 4 Again, he sent out other servants, saying, ‘Tell those who are invited, “See, I have prepared my dinner; my oxen and fatted cattle are killed, and all things are ready. Come to the wedding.”’

God-Shaped Prayers

Mon Aug 26, 2013 16:32
Sometimes we pray as if prayer is the means of cajoling God into releasing His carefully hoarded riches.
What makes prayer work the way God says it will work? How can we experience the power in prayer that Scripture promises?
“Prayer is not overcoming God's reluctance, but laying hold of God's willingness.” —Martin Luther

LifeSpring School of Ministry

Tuesday, June 12, 2012
LifeSpring School of Ministry

Affiliation
LifeSpring School of Ministry is a ministry of the General Conference of the Church of God (Seventh Day).
The Church of God (Seventh Day) is a fellowship of believers in Jesus Christ. We are bound together and find unique identity in our combined commitment to the written Word of God as our sole authority for belief and practice, to our distinctive doctrines, and to one another as a General Conference of members and congregations.

Mission

Our mission is to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ, introduce others to the Lord, teach them to obey His Word, and nurture spiritual growth in all believers.

Purpose

The purpose of the General Conference is to provide training, services, resources, and materials to assist congregations and members in accomplishing the Mission.

The Church of God (Seventh Day)’s Vision for a Vibrant 21st Century Church

Christ-centered:

We believe that Christ is the head of the church. Therefore, we will exalt the Lord Jesus Christ to the highest in our worship, teaching, preaching, and ministry. He is the author of our salvation and the focus of our faith. Scripture says putting Him at the center of all we do pleases the Father.

Evangelical:

We believe that the kingdom of God extends beyond our denomination, that we are only a small part of the body of Christ, and that we have a legitimate place within, and responsibility to, the rest of the Christian community.

Sabbath-observing:

We believe that being fully Christ-centered and worshiping on the Sabbath are not in conflict. The Sabbath has never been more relevant than it is in today's world, filled with tired people.

Spirit-filled:

We desire to be a church with increasing passion to experience the fullness of the Holy Spirit, expressed in the way we live and do ministry, individually and corporately.

Bible-based:

We believe that Bible-based teaching and preaching honor God and edify people and that our ministry should reflect the highest commitment to integrity of interpretation of biblical truth and its application.

Passionate in worship:

We believe that worship is a primary means by which we express our love for the Lord and that it should be a priority of the Church. Spiritual passion in worshipping the Lord agrees with Scripture and demonstrates our deepening relationship with Him.

Compassionate in service:

We believe that genuine love for the Lord will be transformed into ministry to others. Reaching out to the world through compassionate service honors the Lord and points people to Him.

Aggressive in witness:

We believe that lost people matter to God, that the Church has a mandate to evangelize, that each member has a role in that process, and that world conditions call us to be aggressive about winning the lost.

Strong in fellowship:

We believe that a strong commitment to Christ calls us to a strong commitment to His body. Building up the Church through fellowship and through understanding, developing, and exercising our spiritual gifts is important.

Committed to discipleship:

We believe that the goal of faith is to be conformed to the image of Christ, which happens best through the process of mentoring and discipleship. A healthy church is the result of the healthy spiritual development of individual believers.

Sushi Spring Rolls:
"You may have noticed I’ve posting less often than usual. I normally try to get about two recipes up per week, but between the exhaustion and nausea of the past several months, I just haven’t spent any time in the kitchen…yep, I’m pregnant!! Apolinaras and I are just so completely thrilled and excited to welcome a little girl to our family in early September!!
I’m 22 weeks along and happy to report that now that I’m in the second trimester, I’m finally starting to feel like myself again. My energy has returned, and although I still find myself heading to bed earlier than usual, I’m working out regularly once more and wanting more than just cereal or bagels for dinner. And, my little belly bump is starting to make an appearance as well – it’s taken awhile because I’m so tall, but here I am 5 months along!

As far as cravings go, one night I sent Apolinaras out to get French fries, and another day at work I couldn’t think of anything but an asiago bagel with cream cheese and had to immediately run across the street to Au Bon Pain to pick one up. We’ll see what the remaining months bring!
I already know what my first post-baby meal with be though – sushi! I miss it so much. I’ve had the cooked stuff several times, and while it’s not quite the same, it has been holding me over. And, one of the first meals I whipped up once I finally felt like cooking again were these delicious sushi-inspired spring rolls. I filled the wrappers with shrimp, cucumber, avocado, edamame, and brown rice, and dipped the rolls in soy sauce with wasabi – so good!

Sushi Spring Rolls
Printable Recipe
Ingredients:
2 1/2 cups cooked brown rice (1 cup uncooked)
1/4 cup seasoned rice vinegar

1 cup chopped avocado
1 cup cooked shrimp, chopped
1 cup frozen edamame, thawed
12 spring roll wrappers
Soy sauce and wasabi to taste
Directions:
Stir brown rice and rice vinegar in a large bowl until well mixed; stir in cucumber, avocado, shrimp, and edamame. Place one spring roll wrapper in warm water for about 10 seconds and lay on a flat surface one pliable. Place about 1/2 cup filling in each wrapper and roll up according to package directions (for tips on filling and rolling spring roll wrappers click here). Mix desired amount of soy sauce and wasabi and serve alongside the sushi spring rolls. Makes 6 servings.

When Grace Goes Violent:
Matt Chandler:
Grace-driven effort is violent. It is aggressive. The person who understands the gospel understands that, as a new creation, his spiritual nature is in opposition to sin now, and he seeks not just to weaken sin in his life but to outright destroy it. Out of love for Jesus, he wants sin starved to death, and he will hunt and pursue the death of every sin in his heart until he has achieved success.
This is a very different pursuit than simply wanting to be good. It is the result of having transferred one’s affections to Jesus. When God’s love takes hold of us, it powerfully pushes out our own love for other gods and frees our love to flow back to him in true worship. And when we love God, we obey him. The moralist doesn’t operate that way. While true obedience is a result of love, moralistic legalism assumes it works the other way around, that love results from obedience.

Ashley Wilkins - Hand of Hope Medical Missions Coordinator

"We have just returned from a one week medical/dental outreach and I know it is one I will never forget! We traveled to a small village in Northern Uganda called Gulu. This small part of Africa was not long ago ravaged by the terrors of an internal war. Many small children were forced to become child soldiers and to do horrific things to those they loved most. Traveling to this area to hold a medical/dental outreach was an honor for us and an unheard of act of kindness to them.

Over 4,000 people were treated for all types of ailments including HIV, malaria, parasites, dehydration, skin infections, dental needs, and many, many more. One person we helped treat was 15 year old Jacqueline. When Jacqueline arrived by herself at our ministry tent on Wednesday morning, she cried out with a deep desperation and terror in her eyes, begging for help: "Please, nobody wants to help me, they say I am crazy, please, please help me!" We carried her to a separated room to talk privately and there learned she was forced to watch her parents die during the war, has been sexually abused and now has seizures several times a day causing her Aunt to believe she is sick and will bring curses to them. Her family has cast her out and does not take care of her, so she wanders the streets trying to survive. We prayed with Jacqueline and at our medical clinic she received Christ and healing from her seizures! She was dirty so we cleansed her, her clothes were tattered so we clothed her, she was hungry so we fed her, she needed a good home so we found one for her. Before we left Jacqueline said in her language and with a huge smile on her face, "A poio Mateck," Thank you very much, thank you very much!

None of this would be possible without Christ first compelling us to go, and that is why Hand of Hope travels the world searching for a need to meet and a stomach to fill. Getting to serve in the field is always a tremendous privilege. I cannot thank our wonderful friends and partners enough for participating in what God is doing and helping to enable us to go to the uttermost parts of the earth to find children like Jacqueline.

Hand of Hope is the missions arm of Joyce Meyer Ministries. Our goal is simply to help as many hurting people as we possibly can, to alleviate human suffering and to help Christians grow in their faith."
